After enjoying a basic breakfast at our hotel in Monistrol-d’Allier we took off in the cool mist climbing for ever upwards to get out of the valley and above the clouds to the sunshine. Hotel owner Peter was great with his advice and support getting us going on this difficult stage.
By midday we had reached the plateau and enjoyed some level walking. I met more Canadians today who are great helping us with the language issues as of course in most cases they speak both French and English. In the evening Pascale a French man who has worked in the US and had good English organised our accommodation over the phone for tomorrow night. It is difficult to do this with our poor grasp of French although we muddle through one way or another.
The trail was for a greater part of the day through dairy farms with the sweet smell of fresh poo from the cows. Towards the end there were a lot of tired Pilgrims enduring the heat (around 26 degrees) as they approached La Clauze for their accomodation.
