Monday September 10th.
Last night we stayed in a Gite near Chapelle Saint Roche which was owned by Rachel and Didier Soulier and yes the Gites get better and better with this one being the best yet. We shared a large room with 2 massive double, beds with Mick and Frances.
Our dinner and breakfast was included.
Dinner was a range of local ( in this case straight from Rachel’s farm) meats and pate followed by quiche and salad ( quiche made from the eggs on the farm) , followed by slow cooked beef ( from the cows on the farm) , beans (yes grown in the garden), then cheeses and finished with bread and butter pudding. We crawled to bed with our stomachs dragging on the ground about 930. Our group was made up of 8 pilgrims plus Rachel herself. A great evening with Lori ( a lovely French lady) doing her best to translate everything for us.
Breakfast was very similar with any excess food offered to the walkers for the upcoming day. We had decided to travel the next stage ending in Aumont-Aubrac on the luggage bus service that comes to the gites each morning. Mick and Frances were catching a train there at 3:50 and we had concern we would not arrive on time if we had walked.
So today has been a rest day exploring Aumont-Aubrac and then saying goodbye to our friends as we now go in different directions.
Cath and I are staying in a small hotel tonight and heading off walking again in the morning for the next stage.
