Cath and Ian’s travels 2018

Thursday, September 27th

We finally got away from Stroud around 11am after making Jai late for work, getting our washing done but mainly because we had so much to talk about.  Can’t wait until we see them again in around 4 weeks’ time.

We headed into Southern Wales and decided to visit Barry Island (as per the TV show Gavin and Stacey).  We found it after about 2 hours driving and could see where the show had been shot in and around the beach.  We had an ice cream but didn’t stay long as we found it a bit disappointing and a lot bigger, busier and touristy than we had imagined.  Still it was something we ticked off our list.

We then continued along the coast and ended up in Porthcawl at the Rose and Crown Pub (as you do) .  This was a pleasant hotel / pub and the room was first class.  Had dinner in the bar and retired early to watch TV but were asleep by 9pm (they have channel on TV here that is all in the Welsh language).

All this travelling is very tiring.  Ideally its best to get to where you are staying early afternoon. Going over the Severn Bridge (5 pounds 60 pence) and visiting Barry Island were our highlights of the day.
