Thursday 4th October
Spent full day in Keswick town.
Today was Thursday market day ( there is also a Saturday market we think) so after breakfast we walked into the town centre to wander through the many stalls of local goods and produce. There was a display of free trade Himalayan crafts and clothing (not exactly local to Lake District) where I was able to purchase a Nepal made wool jacket. Cath also scored some local tops in one of the dozens of outdoor adventure shops.
The skies were dark and grey all this morning and rain fell steadily all afternoon. This doesn’t seem to slow down the hundreds of locals and visitors to the town parading around in the latest state of the art rain coats, beanies and walking boots.
We decided to go into the pub (one of many) around 4pm for a drink and early dinner.
The pubs are so warm here with the open fires and usually there are several dogs to be seen patiently waiting for their owners to finish their pints.
Dogs are made so welcome into the pubs and shops of the UK.
The day ended back at our accomodation (see the street picture where we are in one of the many bed and breakfast homes) around 6 after we purchased an umbrella to get back in the rain.
Tomorrow we are off to the top of the Lake District.
