Cath and Ian’s travels 2018

Sunday, 7th October

As described yesterday we left our accommodation after the one night and this morning vacated everything to the car so we could spend our time exploring York. We had breakfast near the Minster ( you may have seen a video I made of the church bells on yesterday’s blog entry).

We discovered a free walking tour starting at 1015am in the square so managed to arrive a few minutes early and ended up with a great local guide and 2 other couples. One couple from Sydney and another local couple. We all got on great and enjoyed the tour around the inner city. After 12000 steps we finished the walk and the 6 of us had lunch nearby before visited the Minster itself.

Over lunch we told them our story of last nights accommodation and the local couple were so concerned they asked us to come and stay at their place tonight. It was a very nice invitation but we politely said no as we wanted to move out of the town and be somewhere there were less people. We took off in a south easterly direction and found the perfect location in a place called Welton.

We have just had a great dinner and have extended our stay here for 2 nights as this will give us the opportunity to return to York tomorrow and explore more of the Viking history.

Looking forward to a nice sleep tonight with some peace and quite as well as clean bedding.
